Este martes, la Academia de Hollywood anunció a los nominados a la edición 94 de los Premios Oscar. La cinta The Power of the Dog, de Jane Campion, encabeza las candidaturas, con 12 postulaciones, entre las que destacan: Mejor Película, Mejor dirección y Mejor actor. Le siguen Dune, con 10, West Side Story y Belfast, con 7 cada una.
En la categoría de Mejor Película compiten por el premio más importante de la industria del cine Belfast, Coda, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog y West Side Story.
En el apartado de Mejor Dirección se verán las caras Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog), Ryûsuke Hamaguchi (Drive My Car), Kenneth Branagh (Belfast), Paul Thomas Anderson (Licorice Pizza) y Steven Spielberg (West Side Story).
La pareja de esposos Javier Bardem y Penélope Cruz compiten en las categorías de Mejor Actor y Mejor Actriz, por su trabajo en Being the Ricardos y Madres paralelas, respectivamente.
Bardem se medirá con Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog), Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick… Boom!), Will Smith (King Richard) y Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth), mientras que, Cruz comparte categoría con Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), Krsiten Stewart (Spencer) y Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos).
En el apartado Mejor Actor de Reparto figuran Troy Kotsur (Coda), Ciarán Hinds (Belfast), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog), Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog), y JK Simmons (Being the Ricardos), mientras que en el cuadro femenino destacan Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter), Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Judi Dench (Belfast), Kirsten Dunst (The Power of the Dog) y Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard).
Encanto, la película de Disney ambientada en Colombia y en cuya banda sonora participó el músico y productor venezolano Alvaro Paiva-Bimbo, tiene tres nominaciones: Mejor Película Animada, Mejor Banda Sonora y Mejor Canción («Dos oruguitas»). El músico, de 46 años de edad, se desempeñó como programador adicional, que en la práctica se traduce en la persona encargada de escribir música adicional para las escenas de la película.
La edición 94 de la ceremonia de los Oscar tendrá lugar el próximo 27 de marzo en el Teatro Dolby de Los Ángeles, y contará por primera vez desde 2018 con un anfitrión, cuyo nombre no se conoce.
La decisión llega después de que los Oscar, la mayor premiación del cine, perdiera índices de audiencia en los últimos años, especialmente en abril del año pasado, cuando fue vista solo por 10 millones de personas. Una cifra que es 56% menos que en 2020, año en que el evento tuvo la menor audiencia de su historia.
